OK. Dark Matter was a trash drama based story with science fiction elements. The typical real-life trope of an author who is most definitely not a genius, trying to write about a genius physicist protagonist, who unfortunately doesn’t instantly recognise a bleedingly obvious main plot point, that anyone who has read a science fiction book would pick up immediately. The physics discovery has so many implications … but the protagonist doesn’t grasp this and gets it wrong, but that’s OK, because it’s the same deal with the author, resulting in a story that stays horribly shallow, and drama-focused.
Not to be confused with with the existing Dark Matter TV series (2015-17) that was a really good science fiction show.
However, of the 56,000 ratings on goodreads, 80% rate the book as 4 stars or higher (out of 5). So clearly tastes may vary. Mind you, there are nearly 1,000 1 star reviews (people writing reviews to discuss why the book is garbage, not just giving it a rating of 1 – close to 5,000 of those)
