What is “Outrage Harvesting”, “Quote Harvesting”, or “Quote Mining”? Sifting through a speech, and pulling out a phrase that sounds outrageous by itself, but measured when taken in context. Anyone who has spent any amount of time checking what people are pushing on the social media will be aware of this, and should be able to detect the stink of it’s presence reasonably quickly.
Here’s some tips. If the quote doesn’t sound like something the person would have said, if the person pushing the quote doesn’t provide any context, doesn’t provide a link to the source, then you should immediately see the red flags.

PRIME MINISTER: Look, what I say is that the party platform has got the balance right. And what we need to do is to make sure that we as a country, this is a conflict a fair way away from us, but that everything that we do is balanced, that we say that I support the right of Israel to exist within secure borders, I also support the legitimate aspirations of Palestinians for their own state and to live in peace and security with prosperity. Now, we want to see that coming together, and Australia can play a role in promoting harmony rather than conflict and that is the role that I want our government to continue to play.
