I bought a coffee mug that I give to the barista so I don’t keep wasting paper cups and plastic lids. The mug I chose was allegedly made of bamboo and eco-friendly. I had no way of verifying this in the store, so wanted to check it out later. I was very dubious that the cup, which looked like it was a bakelite product, actually contained any bamboo. I contacted the seller, who engaged another company to manufacture the product, the manufacturers were relatively brief, but assured me that the material did contain a large amount of bamboo that was pressure moulded into cup. More research lead to the article above. Upshot – you can’t tell if the product is actually eco-friendly unless you are carefully lead through the development of the material. It may actually be toxic.
